Coast Guard Auxiliary Radio Operators Around the United States to Celebrate the 84th Anniversary of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, Friday, June 2 through Sunday, June 4, 2023.

Attention AUXCOM members, HAM Radio Operators and shortwave listeners: Standby for information on this event for 2024.

Coast Guard Auxiliarists throughout the United States and in New Jersey from Flotilla 1808 and Flotilla 8-2 will be "on the air" from the historic Coast Guard Auxiliary building at Cape May, New Jersey.  We will be operating 10-40 meters using portable end fed antennas and a vertical antenna.  Licensed Amateur Radio Operators are invited exchange contacts.  Shortwave Listeners may also listen in!

Boaters may be familiar with the US Coast Guard Auxiliary on-water patrols, free Vessel Safety Checks and boating classes but may not be aware that many Auxiliarists are also trained radio watch standers, providing support for the regular Coast Guard.

From June 2 through June 4th, Auxiliary radio operators who are also Amateur or “HAM” operators will be “on the air” telling the Coast Guard Auxiliary story to fellow HAMS around the United States and beyond.

Using familiar voice and sophisticated digital signals, Auxiliary operators will describe what it’s like to patrol waterways throughout the US, stand watch on Coast Guard ships, teach boating safety, inspect commercial fishing vessels and more.

“Most people don’t realize that radio communications play an important role for the Coast Guard Auxiliary” said David King, a Coast Guard Auxiliary radio communications officer. “Specially trained and licensed Auxiliarists provide radio back up for Auxiliary patrols, and even Auxiliary aircraft.”

The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, founded in 1939, is the uniformed, volunteer arm of the United States Coast Guard.  Auxiliary duties include: Promote and improve Recreational Boating Safety, provide trained crews and facilities to augment the Coast Guard and enhance safety and security of our ports, waterways, and coastal regions and support Coast Guard operational, administrative, and logistical requirements.
